CRIQ puts wind turbine components to the test

eocycle L

Client: Eocycle Technologies

Energy production from small wind turbines is surging worldwide, both on and off the electrical grid. That’s good news for Québec, a major renewable-resource energy producer.

Eocycle Technologies, based in Gaspé and Montréal, is one of the local companies working in energy production. The company produces and sells a direct-drive 25kW-output wind turbine, the EOCYCLE 25.

The desire to improve its products and meet normative standards led Eocycle to have CRIQ submit its flagship product to a battery of tests.

CRIQ performed an initial mechanical test to validate the blade’s strength following the Eocycle protocol. Various loads were applied to the blade to recreate the wind forces it must resist once installed. CRIQ then performed a second mechanical test to ensure there was no contact between the rotor and alternator stator when the turbine operates—contact can result in a power cut. Lastly they tested the alternator housing to make certain it was watertight and dust proof.

With these tests behind it, Eocycle was able to confirm the reliability of EOCYCLE 25 components and guarantee clients a product built to withstand time and the elements.
