Developing extractables and other added-value forest products

Pine

CRIQ is coordinating a project to develop extractables and other added-value forest products in Québec. The project is part of the Québec government’s commitment to supporting innovation and product development in order to make the forest industry more competitive. The project aims to more quickly develop, optimize, and upscale four product families created from forest biomass: natural antioxidants, organic pesticides, insulating foams, and tallöl, a liquid resin produced by pulp and paper production.

$3.1 million of funding for the four-year $4 million project comes from Québec’s Ministère des ressources naturelles (MRN) and $250,000 from CRIBIQ (Consortium de recherche et innovations en bioprocédés industriels au Québec). Industry stakeholders are also contributing financially to be part of a one-of-a-kind opportunity to develop new products and procedures for their own markets.
