Potholes patched with recycled shingles

Sablière Warwick

Investissement Québec - CRIQ came up with a cold asphalt formulation composed of recycled tarred shingles. It turns out that ground-up recycled shingles are perfect for patching potholes the green way. The certification tests we carried out satisfied Transports Québec’s 4501 Standard and demonstrated that our formulation could stand up to Québec’s climate and was market ready.

The ideal partner
We found the ideal marketing partner in the Warwick sorting centre. Sablière de Warwick has extensive civil engineering and road repair experience. Since 2010 it has also operated the Warwick sorting centre, whose mission is to keep construction, renovation, and demolition materials out of landfill sites. With the necessary infrastructure in place to process recycled shingles, the centre jumped on the opportunity to distinguish itself by bringing a value-added product to market.

“With the CRIQ formulation in hand, the Warwick sorting centre can
proceed to market with a product that will drive the repurposing of asphalt shingles.”
