Testing the lifespan of bus driver seats

stm durabilite

Client: Société de transport de Montréal

Seats that have come a long way

Montréal’s public transit corporation—Société de transport de Montréal (STM)—asked CRIQ to test the lifespan of two new models of seats for bus drivers. A number of criteria were used, including cushioning, resistance, reliability, and maintenance.

CRIQ used a vibration table to simulate a route based on actual data recorded on a bus travelling at 50 k.p.h.

The vibration test on the two seats lasted 168 hours, simulating 100,000 km travelled. Mannequins weighing 90 kg were used, sitting in four different positions. Then, to create even more wear and tear, the test simulated a further 34,600 km, this time with a 120 kg mannequin.

Wear and tear, particularly on one of the two seats tested, will help STM make the right decision to ensure employee comfort.

- CRIQ is a partner that really has us going places!
